_Based in Ithaca, New York, Grassroots Ecological Consulting serves as an advocate for the natural world, habitat conservation,
and biological diversity. We work with
clients throughout New York State to develop strategies to protect natural
habitat threatened by development, inadequate zoning, or other legal, political
and planning issues.
We offer strategic advice—through telephone, email, and in-person consultations—to individuals and groups faced with the looming threat of a significant change to the natural habitat in their community. This threat often comes in the form of large-scale development about which neighborhoods and community members have had little say. We provide guidance through the torturous SEQR process and other regulatory complexities, and advise clients on how to advocate for open space and habitat preservation, and demand adequate environmental remediation. We work with our clients to ensure that proper legal and regulatory scrutiny is given to potential projects. We also offer guidance on developing community vision proactively through environmental consulting, ecological inventories, and workshops on bioregional mapping. Our services include assessment of site conditions--such as ecological communities surveys, soil type analysis, and watershed research--and the review of environmental regulations and their pertinence to a particular project. We also assist groups with media outreach and public relations. |
